Under the Skill India Mission (SIM) of the Government of India, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) provides skilling, re-skilling, and up-skilling training through a wide network of Skill Development Centres/Colleges/Institutes, etc. under various schemes. Is. , i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the country.
Skill India Mission (SIM) aims to enable India's youth to acquire future-ready and industry-ready skills. In addition, training is also provided through training centers registered at the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), and Skill India Digital (SID).
A brief description of these schemes is as follows -
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) -
PMKVY scheme is to provide skill development training through Short Term Training (STT) and up-skilling and re-skilling through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to the youth across the country, including rural areas.
Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme -
The main objective of JSS is to provide primary level education up to class 12 and vocational skills to school dropouts in the age group of 15-45 years, to non-literates, neo-literates, and 15-45-year-olds. With appropriate age relaxation in the case of “Divyangjan” and other deserving cases. Women, SC, ST, OBC, and minorities in rural areas and urban low-income areas are given priority.
National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) -
The scheme is to promote apprenticeship training and increase the participation of apprentices by providing financial assistance to industrial establishments running apprenticeship programs under the Apprenticeship Act, of 1961. Training includes basic training and on-the-job training. /Practical training at the workplace in industry. A total of 42453 establishments across the country have appointed apprentices.
Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) -
The scheme provides long-term training through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the country. ITIs offer a range of vocational/skill training courses covering a large number of economic sectors to provide a skilled workforce in industry as well as self-employment of youth.
